MBTA bus drivers generally merge to the right curb even when there is a bike lane - as shown on another Web page. That is appropriate, to prevent their passengers from colliding with bicyclists overtaking on the right. But here, merging to the right would require a forced merge to the left at the end of the bike lane. It is fortunate that no bicyclist happened along as the passenger sprinted across the bike lane. A bicyclist could safely overtake the bus in the middle of the next lane to its left -- or could slowly and carefully exit to the sidewalk, staying well clear of the bus.
